ABOUT
B. Boyd is an artist, engineer, and musician in Denver, Colorado.
In 2023, Boyd's brother pulled the crossword answer "APOTHEOSIS" out of nowhere after hearing only the clue and the letter count. They were spending a week with the whole family together for the first time in years and couldn't feel more at home. In the background, as Bob Dylan and Green Day thrummed through the speaker, the two boys wondered when long-form music would make a comeback. It was there that the idea for Apotheosis was born.
B. Boyd spent the next 6 months writing the lyrics and instrumental and another 6 months rehearsing the song in the car on every drive before finally recording and releasing the iconic 12-minute one-take with an unfortunate zit on his nose. The released video was the second take.
This level of commitment is the golden thread underpinning all of B. Boyd's work. It runs through his trio of albums - Cardamom, Paprika, and Turmeric - each exploring variety in music as the "spice" of life. It runs through his 60+ hand-decorated, hand-designed, and often-upcycled articles of merch. It runs through his most recent project, The Dragon Smog, which features 67 individual illustrations composed over the span of 5 months.
By choosing to hand-animate the music video himself and explicitly avoiding generative AI, Boyd makes a statement on human agency.
Geek Native (2026)
This latest project is a mythicized autobiography of B. Boyd's lived experience. The Dragon Smog depicts a young person grappling with massive political and global forces standing in their way. No matter your background, there's something for you in this story. With the world both more connected and divided than ever, we all see and feel the monstrous forces driving our lives daily. The overwhelm is real. The solutions exist.
New art is on the way. Accomplish something this year.
